This paper aims to explore the works by Jeong-Saeng Kwon through Luke’s theological perspective. Kwon presents the poor people throughout his novels. These characters suggest new hope and vision for social subversion. Such a motif can be characterized as reversal and paradox rooted in the author’s Christianity thoughts. In terms of intertextuality, hypotext corresponds to the Gospel of Luke and hypertext corresponds to the works of Kwon, in particular, Doggy Poo and Tolbae’s Journey. Luke presents his own worldview for the inversion of the poor and the rich. This theological stance appears in the works of Kwon. Even though Doggy poo and Tolbae are poverty-striken, they would be paradoxically the heroes in changing the society. Thus, reading Kwon’s works with Luke’s Gospel provides the lucid vision of a new world and its paradigm.

본 연구는 권정생의 작품을 신약성서 누가복음과 함께 읽으며 누가복음의 신학적 관점을 통해 권정생의 작품을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 권정생의 작품 세계에는 가난한 캐릭터가 매우 많다. 흥미로운 점은 작가가 그 가난한 캐릭터들을 통해 새로운 희망과 역전에 대한 소망을 전한다는 것이다. 전복과 역설로 설명되는 이러한 모티프는 성서에 기초한 그의 기독교 사상에 기인한다. 이러한 특징은 상호텍스트성 개념을 통해 구체적으로 설명 가능하다. 신약성서 누가복음이 하이포텍스트가 되고, 권정생 작품 중 󰡔강아지똥󰡕과 󰡔똘배가 보고 온 달나라󰡕가 하이퍼텍스트에 해당된다. 누가복음은 가난한 자가 복받는 새로운 세상을 노래하고 있다. 누가복음 이야기는 권정생 작품 속에서 끊임없이 재현되고 있다. 강아지똥과 똘배 역시 가난한 존재이지만 역설적으로 가장 아름답고 소중한 존재가 된다. 이처럼 누가복음을 통해 권정생 작품을 읽을 때 권정생이 표현하고자 있는 새로운 세상과 새로운 질서에 대한 희망은 더욱 선명하게 다가온다.
