The purpose of this study is to examine the symbolism of Yeon-O-Rang and Se-O-Nyeo through the tale of Yeon-O-Rang & Se-O-Nyeo. And this study intends to analyze this symbolism through a shamanistic approach. Basically, Yeon-O-Rang and Se-O-Nyeo were a group of high-tech technologists with respect to salt making, iron production, and weaving skills as well as the organizers of the heavenly ancestral rites. The migration of the Yeon-O-Rang and Se-O-Nyeo groups, who possessed iron-making technology, meant the cessation of steel production and the spread of technology. The weaving technique Se-O-Nyeo possessed was sacred as the harmony between horizontal and vertical, symbolized by weft and warp threads. Modern people tend to associate shamanism with superstition. However, in ancient societies, shamanism played a variety of functions and roles. This is because shamanism in ancient societies is also related to the spread of civilizations such as astronomy, ironmaking, and weaving techniques. Therefore, the tale of Yeon-O-Rang & Se-O-Nyeo can be seen as related to the spread of civilization, not just as a movement.

본 연구의 목적은 􋺷연오랑과 세오녀􋺸설화를 통해서 본 연오랑과 세오녀의 상징성 고찰이다. 그리고 본 연구는 이러한 상징성을 샤머니즘 접근을 통해서 수행하고자 한다. 기본적으로 연오랑과 세오녀는 하늘에 제사를 지내는 제례의 주관자이면서 소금 제조, 제철 생산, 그리고 직조 기술을 지녔던 첨단기술자 집 단이었다. 제철 기술을 보유했던 연오랑과 세오녀 집단의 이주는 제철 생산 중 단 및 기술의 유출을 의미했다. 세오녀가 지녔던 직조 기술은 씨실과 날실로 상 징되는 수평과 수직의 조화로서 신성한 대상이었다. 현대인은 샤머니즘을 미신 과 연관 짓는 경향이 있다. 그러나 고대 사회에서 샤머니즘은 다양한 기능과 역 할을 했다. 고대 사회에서 샤머니즘은 천문, 제철 기술, 그리고 직조 기술과 같 은 문명의 전파와도 관련성을 갖기 때문이다. 따라서 􋺷연오랑과 세오녀􋺸 설화 는 단순한 이동에 관한 것이 아니라, 문명의 전파와 관련된 것으로 볼 수 있다.
