Crime and Punishment focuses on the multifaceted soul of Raskolinikov who suffers from a mental breakdown due to his moral dilemmas. In the inner landscape of his soul racked with paranoia, the most outstanding hypothetical themes are nihilism, superman theory and orthodox principle. Although these three themes appear to be in conflict, they demonstrate the author’s ulterior motive to delineate their meaning with an accumulative structure. They serve a pivotal role to come up with the unfinalizable connotation of Raskolinikov’s resurrection. In this process his displaced soul has to confront the moral consequences related with these themes. Crucial to getting his own existential rehabilitation is Sonya’s sincere acceptance of the undeserved suffering. Through this, he experiences a paradigm shift in his heart; he finally realizes his existence is caught up in absurdity and feels his soul resurrected through an unexpected awakening moment.

가치의 혼돈과 비극적 행위로 정신이 분열되어가는 라스콜리니코프의 영혼은 여러 층리로 분리되어 있다. 극심한 내적 분열을 겪어가는 젊은 영혼의 내면 풍경에서 가장 두드러진 명제는 허무주의와 초인사상 그리고 정교사상이다. 그 런데 이 세개의 명제들이 명료한 개념으로 형상화되고 있지 않은 채, 보는 관점에 따라, 서로 충돌하는 내용으로 보이는 것은, 도스토옙스키가 이들의 의미를 중첩구조로 서술하였기 때문이다. 필자는 작품 속 부활의 의미를 온전히 이해하기 위해서는 이 중첩구조를 이해하는 것이 중요하다고 여긴다. 그의 분열된 영혼이 부활로 가는 과정에서, 이 명제들이 서로 상관적으로 작동하여, 부활의 비종결적 의미를 만들어 내고 있기 때문이다. 그리고 소냐의 고통 감내를 통한 정교사상의 실천적 행위에 힘입어, 라스콜리니코프는 스스로 내면적 인식전환을 이뤄가고 있다. 이 과정을 거치며 마침내 그는 부조리한 존재상황에 갇혀 있던 자신을 확인하고, 내면의 성찰과 깨달음을 거치자, 비로소 자신의 영혼이 자유롭게 비상하며 부활하고 있음을 느끼게 된다.
