This paper deals with JEONG Yeon-Hee’s portrayal of Christian ethicsafter her acceptance of Christianity in her novels published after the mid-1970s.Although the novels seem to retain the same form as her earlier novels, there isa significant difference. It is thus worthwhile to research how her later novelsreveal the nature and practice of religious ethics. When one’s ego comes out froma closed, privileged, and inner-concentrated mind, and shows sympathy to others,a form of social ethics comes into being. The ego that internally bears the eyes ofGod comes to recognize and criticize not only the self but also the outside worldthrough the eyes of God. There is a big difference in JEONG’s attitude to the ideaof desire between her earlier fiction and later Christian fiction. Desire iscondemned in her Christian fiction while it is hailed as a positive creative energyin her early novels. Such negative emotions as compulsive anger, anxiety, and fearin her later novels can be understood as an expression of horror of destruction, anemotional expression of the moral consciousness, and a sense of fear in theapocalyptic narrative foreshadowing the end of the world.
