Cormac McCarthy’s two main genres are Southern and Westernfiction. However, Blood Meridian begins to show the writer’s new interest onChristianity by the religious symbols such as broken cross along with therevisionist historical view based on the real history. The protagonist, the Kid inthe novel, is portrayed as the Pentheus figure and the scapegoat for thedisguised violence to avoid the bigger violence. The Sunset Limited shows, onthe contrary, the limited salvation in the Half-way convent which does not havethe convincement of the faith. The boy in The Road, however, has a real fatherunlike the alternative Judge father or the absent presence of God. It is why theKid in The Road, unlike the other western heroes of Antichrist, suffers fromthe both of the sacred and humanity among the apocalyptic narratives ofhumans’ repetitive violences. In this regard the apocalyptic phenomena inMcCarthy’s fiction shows us that the salvation is already begun.
