In The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, William Blake criticizesChristian dualism pursuing the Same and Totality and suggests imaginationshould be recovered to make a breakthrough from the dead end of dualism.Ethical imagination through which you can notice the Infinite and respectdifferences and individuality in the face of the other makes it possible toestablish dynamic relations of contrary values, the self and the other.Coexistence of the self and the other is the same as pursued in EmmanuelLevinas’s ethics, the ethics of the Other. In Levinas’s ethics, the self becomesthe subject of hospitality by responding to the other’s face’s request for helpand obeying its order not to kill. Blake and Levinas appear to have found asolution to the problem of dualism and the Same and Totality in a newparadigm of relations in which priority is given to the other rather than the self,making it possible for both of them to enjoy equal rights.
